We are very proud to showcase our very own Bahay Kubo students from our Learn Filipino Program and Filipino Martial Arts as they perform traditional folk art dances and martial arts on Saturday, November 5th. With special guests, the Harana Men’s Chorus and our our longtime partner, Cal State Northridge’s Filipino-American Students Association (FASA), this show is written and directed by the talented Annie Nepomuceno.

“Bisperas” is our culminating celebration of this year’s classes and activities. This also happens to be Bahay Kubo Center’s 10th Anniversary, so this is a very special event. We hope you will come spend this festive evening with us, to appreciate the rich culture and heritage of Filipino-Americans.

Doors Open at 5:00 PM for Exhibit viewing and Filipiniana shopping!

(Tickets are $20. All ticket sales benefit BKC’s Learn Filipino and Filipino Martial Arts Programs. Sponsorship packages available for our show program. For more information and to reserve tickets, please contact Myra at

BKC’s Summer 2012 programs come to an end

Good-bye to all of our new and continuing LFP and FMA students… until we reopen our doors again in 2013! Thank you to all the parents who have continued to bring their kids to BKC on Saturdays every year during the hot summers, despite everyone’s busy summer vacation schedules. Thank you to this summer’s teaching staff, Mia, Maan, Jennifer and Stevie! Thank you to Guro Ed for your constant dedication to BKC’s martial arts class, year after year! Thank you to CSUN FASA for all the Saturday morning set-ups and clean-ups that help make our LFP and FMA classes run smoothly and timely.

Everyone’s countless volunteer hours are tremendously appreciated by Bahay Kubo Center, who is blessed to have every single one of you in the BKC family. We will miss you all, until we meet again next year. The planning, assessment and fundraising for 2013 begins!

San Fernando Valley’s Biggest Blood Drive

You never know if or when you will be needing blood one day… So, pay it forward by DONATING BLOOD on Saturday, October 1st, from 10am to 4pm, at the Granada Hills Recreation Center (corner of Petit and Chatsworth St.) or at the North Valley Youth Sports Complex (just north of Woodley and Balboa, behind the DWP.  Both locations are in Granada Hills and sponsored by the Granada Hills Rotary Club.

Many people depend on the life-saving availability of blood, for an operation or for on-going treatments. That blood comes from the kindness of volunteer donors all over the country.  The need is so great that sometimes blood banks run dangerously short.  And blood is expensive, costing hospitals more than $350 per pint.  Luckily, healthy people can donate blood without any harm to themselves, as their bodies replace that blood within a couple of weeks.  Repeat donors can donate every 56 days.

All blood donors will receive a free t-shirt, a free pancake breakfast (or lunch), a free Baskin-Robbins ice cream coupon and a free raffle ticket.  The raffle grand prize will be a ride for two aboard the Goodyear Airship, and many other prizes!  Hope to see you there!
